400th Post Interpretative Swap and Giveaway

Time to get your button jars out and find some of your most interesting buttons. I decided to have some fun for my 400th post and this is it....

I'm going to host an interpretative button swap. You will find one button representing what each month of the year MEANS TO YOU and send the 12 buttons to your partner telling her (or him, I suppose) why you chose each button. For example...in my picture above....


January--rhinestone button that looks like a firework to celebrate New Years
February--heart button for Valentine's Day
March--button with music notes for when we start to hear the birds sing in the spring
April--swirly blue button for all the rain we usually get in April
May--green flower button...the green grass and flowers are out in full
June--time to find sea shells on the beach
July--the roses and flowers are beautiful this time of year
August--memories of being on "the boat" with my grandparents in Maine
September--a letter "A"...time for school
October--big round orange pumpkins
November--a wooden button...all we see is wood on the trees now, no leaves
December--a clear, icy-looking button for all the snow and ice that comes



Now, your reasons and representative buttons can be completely different...perhaps you got married in October so you would have a pearl button like your dress had; maybe you celebrate Hanukkah and have a blue and silver button for December; or a swirly button for September to represent all the hurricanes you've seen. You get the idea! This swap is meant to be fun, interpretative, inexpensive, and creative!



Rules: Email me at treasuresandtea@gmail.com with your 1) name, 2) address, 3) blog address, and 4) whether you are willing to ship internationally. That's it! Sign up is until midnight September 19th. I'll send out your partner's info to you sometime on Monday, September 20th. Please mail out your buttons and explanations no later than September 27th.

What goodies! What inspiration! I have been contemplating doing the Lollishop's "Group Challenge" of creating a "bits and pieces collage". Well, papery goodies are not my area so to speak, but I love paper and little things, and with Linda's goodies...I'm going to give it a try. I think I'll work on some tags. The red heart ribbon Linda tied the treasures up with was beautiful. I truly love and appreciate pretty ribbon.
Also, I felt like a little kid going through the tin of buttons Linda sent along. I love buttons, and there are some beauties here.

The Button Swap Exchange

You never know quite what you're getting into when you participate in a swap. Someday I think I'll host one, perhaps this fall. Anyway, I participated in the Button Swap hosted by Wondermommy (see below to go to her site). I poured though my huge bag of buttons and found a particularly pretty one and put buttons with it in coordinating colors and interesting shapes. Then I made a button as an extra special gift. (See picture above) Truly if I weren't doing beads I would probably do something with buttons. Buttons have so many characteristics and can be absolutely gorgeous. I particularly like unusual ones, shell ones, ones of unusual shapes, and anything floral and pretty. So, I sent the tiny button package out with a little note about myself (as was required by the swap rules) about loving the Lord and being a homeschooling Mom etc. and so forth. Then I waited...and waited...and figured I wouldn't get the swap back.
Then...a small package came...but in the same exact boxes that I had sent. I thought, "Oh, no, she didn't like the note and/or the buttons I sent and has sent my swap back!" But that was not it at all. I got a lovely set of buttons (really like the strawberry one and the purple jeweled one) and a sweet note from Kess who is 13 and has a hobby of button collecting (over 900 at this point!). Shame on me for not thinking rightly! Though my swap partner is a young girl--not at all what I had expected--I think perhaps we my have some more button swaps between us (Kess asked me if I'd like to!) in the future, and I'm already thinking of the next little box of buttons I'm going to send her...in the same exact boxes of course!

Button Swap

I haven't participated in a swap for awhile. I guess some can get a little costly, even though I have such GREAT fun finding little bits to put into a package. Well, this swap sounded fun AND inexpensive. I will be exchanging six buttons (more if I'd like) and a little note with someone. What a sweet and simple swap!
